Inspired by social news, SHADOW is committed to calling on society and people to care for and help the children who have been sexually abused.
Why I made SHADOW
Like the shadows of the devil projected on the wall, the experience of sexual abuse in childhood cannot be erased easily from the victim's mind. SHADOW hopes to show the cruel and terrifying image of the perpetrator and the helplessness of the victim by comparing the participant's own shadow with the shadows of the devil in the projection.
Besides, when more and more people stand together in the face of these shadows, the shadow of the devil will fade and disappear, to express that if more love and help are given to the victims, the shadow in their hearts will dissipate and their hurt will be appeased.
White wall, nothing seems to happen.
When a person comes to face the wall, the shadow of five demons will suddenly appear on the wall, and the background will become dark.
Another person comes and the shadows fade.
A third person comes, the shadows disappeare, and the wall returns to white.

There are more cases of child sexual abuse than we think, People can find a lot of information about this on the Internet. this year Facebook removed 12.4 million images related to child exploitation in a three-month period. Twitter closed 264,000 accounts in six months last year for engaging in sexual exploitation of children. But these are only the tip of the iceberg.

Hope and Silenced are two Movies about children's sexual violence. These two films have a great impact on the society of South Korea and promoted the re-establishment of sentencing standards for sexual assault in Korean law. What saddens me most is that both films are based on real events. Maybe reality is crueler than movies.

In the summer of 2016，An Alaska man who attacked three registered sex offenders said he wants his story “to serve as a deterrent” to anyone tempted to turn their pain into violence or take the law into their own hands. He is Jason Vukovich. Vukovich was abused physically and sexually as a child by his stepfather. However, he never got help. He turned to crime and cycled in and out of jail cells for decades. Children who have been sexually abused need help
Starting from the appeal of Vukovich, I want to call on people to help and care for children hurt by abusers.
What will SHADOW do
1. Let people feel the psychological shadow caused by sex offenders.
2. Help people realize the power that care and help can bring to these children.
How will SHADOW do
1. The image of abuser in children's eyes is represented by the shadow projected.
2. When more people are facing the shadows together, the shadows will fade and disappear.
SHADOW consists of a projector, a camera and a wall. Placing the projector behind people can make people's shadow appear together with the images.

The first three shadows are facing the participant, and the latter two shadows may be engaged in another sexual violence.
Help me have further understanding of the effect of the installation.
The interaction between human and projection is realized by motion detection, and different number of participants will trigger different events.
Where would you take this project if you had more time/resources?
This installation is my attempt to get people to empathize with children hurt by abusers and appeal for more attention and help to them.
Originally, I hope to know more about these children's mental state and analyze their psychological harm from the psychological point of view. Secondly, I would make the interaction more easier to be empathetic, like adding more interactions when people have different motions.
